No description.
CADUCEUS CADUCEUS had sent word for one of the gargoyles to meet someone along the alleys of the first district. The reason for this meeting was to helpfully aid them in future endavours.
Percival The summons went out, and it didn't escape Percival's notice. While he had an inclination to trust it, there were many things about this world that he had little knowledge of, and so he spent some time upon the rooftops of Traverse Town. First he surveyed the alleyways, then the streets surrounding them, and finally he tried to peer into the dark to see if anything lurked inside the windows that might be interpreted as a threat.

After he did this all to his satisfaction, he relaxed somewhat and glided lazily down to the street at the end of the alleyway. Furling his wings to rest as a cloak upon his shoulders, he walks into the alleyway, looking upon the one who waited for him. "Fair eve to you Sir. I must admit, this is a very odd place to choose for a meeting...."

He took some time to peer at his host. One of the programs. He didn't truly understand technology all that well, and their kind made him uneasy at best, perhaps in part because he'd fought with one of them before. His tail twitched uneasily, lashing along in the dark of the alleyway.

"What is it that you want of me?"
CADUCEUS "This way, there will not be anything to influence what I need. Your physiology is obviously vastly different then humans. I know you fight against the heartless and those who work with them, a goal we both share." CADUCEUS says, his green lines being the only real light in the alley. He moves to pull the disk from his back and holds it up. "I am designed to treat the injured and sick, be it program or user. Since users dont have identity disks, treating different varients of user is increasingly difficult when I have no base to compare to."

"I wish to scan you, and your gargoyle brethren so if you become injured, I may be able to apply the best course of treatment effectively Now while I am aware your stone sleep heals you, sometimes you will need medical treatment immediatly." He says as he waits for the man to reply and once approved will begin scanning.
Percival "It...is different, and each of us are vastly different from each other." The boldness of the request took him off guard. It wasn't often that his kind needed significant amounts of healing. Stabilizing treatment until sunrise, yes, but that was typically all. Their stone sleep took care of the rest. Still, he had a sort of admiration for those called to medicine in general. It was a respect ingrained within his kind.

"It may be possible for me to offer you this but, what does this scan entail? And could the information from your scan be used against my kind in some way?"
CADUCEUS "If my data disk ever fell into enemy hands they can extract the medical records but that would require capturing me. See...these disks?" CADUCEUS says as he holds the green glowing disk towards Percival to see. "These store our very memories and skills. If this disk would be damaged, then our minds would suffer the same damage." He says as he keeps the disk held out. "Without it, we slowly begin to lose every sense of self. As for each of your kind being different, then I will need to scan each and every one of you to have a base to use to repair any real damage." He says as he would then move a hand to his chest. "I was personally designed to be a medical program. As such, my first two directives state I must not ever let those injured and sick suffer and die. It is a part of who I am." He says calmly.
Percival There is a rumbling in his throat as he mulls over Caduceus' proposal. It seems as if he'd be giving up something deeply personal by acquiescing to the request. And yet he found it difficult not to. The program seemed sincere enough, and there was something about his demeanour that set Percival at ease. "You may scan me then, but only right now, when I am flesh." He crosses his arms across his chest, below the apexes of his wings.

"Do what you need to do." He glances up and away at the sky. "You say you were designed to do this. That implies...that the designer determines your fate. Do you have a will of your own? Can you make choices?"
CADUCEUS "We gain the characteristics of our users, and our directives and function become our core personality, but we do have our own choices. For example, by my directives, I would be forced to heal those that mean others harm too, like those users who consort with the heartless. However, I choose not to treat them because I know they will cause more suffering. And yes, our designer determines our fate. Every computer program is a being like me, and yet, a user deletes those they deam worthless or dangerous based on their function, not based on us. Thats why we strive to complete our functions as best we can, to prevent being derezzed, or death in your words." CADUCEUS says as he scans the being.
Percival "I find that very disheartening, to be honest. A being's worth should not be chosen by a master, or a 'user', for what if that being lacks wisdom? What if they are capricious, or cruel?" Percival shakes his head. "The direction of your existence, and the fulfillment of your function should be decided only by yourself. And your.....death, should not be on the whims of such beings." A sigh as Caduceus continues his scans. "I suppose what I'm asking is, while I find your purpose to be a noble one, is this the sort of life that you desire? If you were not at the whims of a 'user' then would you choose a very different one?"
CADUCEUS CADUCEUS stops his scan for a moment to think about it. "These lights are green because I am a military based program. My user, was a civilian who's father served in wars as combat medics, stories of letting patients die and finding out new medical theories to save them did exist, was something he was raised on. He designed me to be an aid to combat medics on the frontlines who have only the most basic of training. I dont like seeing those suffer and die. I originally couldnt treat programs since my knowledge was only user medicine but time spent in the games experimenting on myself given me some programming skill, now I can treat both. So you ask if I could choose a different life would I? No. I wouldnt because while I may not be the strongest fighter, I am the one to help those in pain and sick."

He then goes back to his scans. "Of course, considering my medical knowledge, I am one of the few programs who know the frailty of the users and not wish to dominate them."
Percival "One of the few?" There is perhaps a touch of sadness within the Gargoyle's visage. "So you are considered the exception then? That is a shame that there are few others among you that don't feel the same way." Again he searches the sky for answers, only to find few. In this world it was darker, and the stars were dimmer. He always found that disquieting. "My clan has training in combat medicine as well. We considered it one of the few practical teachings from our human allies. Few of us are entirely dedicated to it though, as most of us are warriors. It is the practical application of such that matters to us. Thus, none of us could ever be considered physicians, for example."
CADUCEUS "Most who fight and serve the users, do so because they genuinely believe the users are godlike. They created us, and can kill us on a whim...can create more, can rewrite what we are...Surely beings with such power are gods...When a program finds out that the users are fragile beings who dont consider us more then a tool or an asset, let alone a being, they tend to view users as a threat, and threats need to be controlled or eliminated." He says calmly as he scan. CADUCEUS then nods. "I possess enough medical knowledge to kill users in three million different ways, but I dont even try and control or destroy them because it would be wrong." He says calmly
Percival "I suppose I can understand your perspective from the outside in. Many of my kind feel similarily, or so I'm told. We're considered monsters, by the humans. Our existence is an aberrancy at best, abominable at worst. And yet it is by the grace of God that we exist. And it is from sin that our existence continues to be set apart. We do not have the same relationship I suppose, as we were not born out of subservience...." Sorrow can be clearly seen in his expression. "When the users discover the truth of your existence, what will happen then? It is in their nature to fear what they do not understand, and in yours to broker truth between your kind and theirs. Do you think they will strike first, or will your own people decide the situation is untenable?"
CADUCEUS "I dont know how our peoples will get along but perhaps, slowly, we may learn to cooperate better. We have a common enemy, the heartless. And people will always work together when there is a serious common threat." CADUCEUS says as he looks through the scan. "Your physiology is quite impressive. And if your stone sleep truely cures most of your injuries and affliction, then it is similar to putting a person into a coma so the body can focus completely on healing. Humanity hates your kind?" He asks curiously.
Percival "In my world, humanity doesn't even know we exist any longer. A select few do, but if humanity as a whole were aware of us..." There is a snort that comes out of Percival's nostrils so suddenly, the hot blast of air fogging up the cool night air suddenly. "....then we wouldn't be long for this world. My clan only continues to exist as part of an oath of service to a small group of humans which are our allies, but even they know that they cannot make our existence known to the public."
CADUCEUS "Seems our existances are things found in a sad story." He says as he goes through the scan. "Truth be told I am fascinated by your kind." He says as he then puts the disk on his back. "I have developed a medical log which will allow me to stablize and treat your injuries while you are not in your stone state. I have also modified it to try and keep others from using this knowledge to hurt you medically."
Percival Percival nods in reply to his statement, before he takes a few brief steps towards the alleywall, and begins to dig his talons into it. He doesn't begin climbing though, yet. "It was good to have met you, Sir. To gain a different perspective on your people. You altruistic aims humble me, and you have my thanks for that. We'll speak again soon, but for now I feel my time grows short." And indeed, it was. He was already feeling exhausted. Despite the lack of a cycle of day and night in traverse town, that meant that he would be turning to stone, and soon. "Do take care of yourself."
CADUCEUS CADUCEUS nods. "Do take care of yourself as well and tell those like you that if they would seek me out, I can treat them when they need such healing." He says calmly as he watches the being climb, green light filling the alley.
