Margaux Fleury Overcast clouds hang lazily overhead as darker, more menacing storm clouds begin to roll in. The sentiment above in the sky matches that of below as Margaux de Fleury flees from the direction of Goug, the Clockwork City. Her leather boots plod heavily against the ground as she attempts to outpace her pursuers. Thankfully they do not have horses nor chocobos to close the distance against the quick redhead as she heads towards an outcropping of trees in the direction of Targ woods.

This is where they will play a game of cat and mouse as Margaux ducks behind a large oak tree and waits for her pursuers to either pass by or to finally find her. Her sword is gripped tightly in her left hand as she awaits whatever it is destiny has in store for her, for better or for worse.
Kaydin "I wonder what mighty beast would require this many strong able bodied pursuers to bring it down. Such a mighty beast indeed, for even mere heartless can be brought down by individuals yet here you all are working in earnest against what foe?" A cloaked man says as he walks towards the pursuers, hood covering most of his face, only his lower face and some blonde hair can be seen.
Margaux Fleury Some of the original group had fanned out, but there were still four armed and armored guards with their captain remaining. Their armor bears no distinct markings which might mark them hired blades or perhaps some minor noble's armed escort. They exchanged glances among each other when a cloaked man approaches from seeming nowhere. Where did he come from? Did anyone seem him get this close? The Captain of the group shrugs his shoulders and motions towards the cloaked man. "Sod it, bring that one in for questioning. He could be one of'em." The other men look apprehensive to approach the dangerous man but they obey their leader nevertheless.

As they close in, Margaux peeks out from her hiding place. Now this was unexpected. She -should- use this chance to lose her pursuers for good. But she cannot let some travelling innocent draw the ire from these guards in her stead. The redheaded woman now takes a larger step from her hiding place and raises her rapier in a silent salute towards the cloaked man.

It was now left to see whether this stranger will expose Margaux or stand with her. In either case, she always had the option to flee back where she came which might draw the guards back her way.
Kaydin "Not too wise to try and apprehend a dark knight." Kaydin says as he pulls his arm from his cloak, revealing he had a sword with a chain wrapped about his arm that connected to the sword's pommel. He then holds his sword out and black energy surges along the blade's length. "Run." He says as he readies himself.
Margaux Fleury Margaux knows an opportunity when she sees one. She bursts out into a quick sprint towards their leader she spins counterpoint to him before raising her rapier in clear challenge. "The tables have turned, no?" The slender blade is waved back and forth effortlessly. "Drop your weapon, and I will politely consider letting you go with your life." The fencer is quite intent on dueling the Captain one on one if need be. The four remaining guards hesitate when Kaydin readies himself and declares himself to be a dark knight. The threat against their Captain causes three of them to charge Kaydin now while the fourth goes back to assist their captain. "Ambush!" One yells in the midst of his charge.

The redheaded fencer can only offer Kaydin a smirk and a playful shrug of her shoulders in regards to the sudden escalation of this encounter. Hopefully he can handle fighting three guards at once. It would be a shame for her distraction/savior to be slain before they could even exchange introductions.
Kaydin Kaydin seems to be quite the swordsman, parrying and weaving between the strikes. He then raises his sword and slashes at the air, sending a dark blast of energy at the three of them to drive them back before lunging in with three quick strikes, one aimed at each of them. Seems he is quite able to fight against multiple targets and he keeps them busy while the woman contends with the captain.

A slash at Kaydin's face causes the cloak's hood to fly off to reveal he was probably at his early twenties at the oldest. He bats the sword away and runs the man through, pulling the sword out to parry another attack.
Margaux Fleury The three guards seem stunned at Kaydin's intimidating display of both magical and martial skill. They clearly stand no chance against someone as skilled at this. What little courage they had gets blasted out of them and then is demolished when Kaydin impales on of them with that sword of his. The remaining two drop their weapons and nearly collide into the fourth man who had left earlier to assist their captain. This last guard curses loudly at his fellows lamentable courage, but his own falters when he turns to see Kaydin completely unharmed. Whether it was a fit of madness or courage, this last guard advances on Kaydin.

Meanwhile, Margaux and the Captain trade opening blows. His longsword is heavier and sturdier than her rapier, but she rarely lets their blades meet for long. Once their opening flurry of blows ceases, the Captain presses hard against his mostly defensive opponent. Margaux's timid swordplay leads the captain to swinging faster and harder with each moment. And then it happens. A savage two-handed strike is levied against Margaux who with the grace of a court dancer, moves just enough to be clear of her opponent'ss strike before lunging with her rapier towards her overextended opponent.

This does not end well for the Captain who crumples underneath Margaux's rapier, dead before his body hits ground. The fencer smoothly removes her weapon from her fallen opponent with the use of her boot. While that was fairly unceremonious, she does offer a small salute (or perhaps it is a prayer) to the fallen man. She pivots now and points her blooded rapier towards where Kaydin and the last remaining guard are. Margaux blinks in surprise. Where were the other three? Did this stranger dispatch them already?
Kaydin Kaydin smirks and unwraps a portion of the chain and swings the chain till it was nothing but a blackened blur. He then hurls the weapon at the guard as hard as he can, the sword deflected but it seems that was the intention cause the chain wraps about the man's weapon. Kaydin pulls hard on it, pulling weapon, chain and his sword back and holds the man's weapon. "Go." He says as he then hurls the weapon back at the man before turning to view the woman with the rapier, sighing as he swung his sword, blood flying off of it as if he wiped the blade off.
Margaux Fleury The thrown weapon flies awkwardly through the air towards the backside of the fleeing guard. Margaux's blue eyes watch as sharp end tumbled after the pommel end towards the last of their shared foes. And then....CRACK! The guard's eyes close shut as he drops like a sack of bricks. A long moment later, the embarassed guard recovers and starts to flee in earnest. It seems that God or fate has smiled upon him since he was not skewered by his own blade. The rapier brandishing fencer has to side-step to prevent the fleeing the guard from crashing into her. A smirk is firmly entrenched on the swordwoman's face as she watches the last of her pursuers flee.

"Bloody work," intones the woman as she uses the previously slain guard's cloak to clean off her blade. "But maybe they think twice before pursuing me next time?" Margaux's stance does not seem threatening, but a fencer's rarely does until it was too late. "I must thank you for your timely appearance. Whether you are an angel sent from Above or a..." Kaydin's attire is noted. "....demon arisen from Below, it matters not." The dancer spins into a staged bow with one foot taking a step behind herself while sheathing her blade in one fluid movement. "You have my utmost thanks either way."
Kaydin "Many will argue I am the latter rather the former. Still, it disgusts me how that many people is needed to take down one individual." He says as he would then bow to the woman. "So why exactly were they chasing you? Are you a thief and got caught? Or did you offend their lord and he wanted payback?" He asks curiously as he watches the woman. "I am Kaydin, former Dark Knight of Baron, and now homeless wanderer." He says calmly.
Margaux Fleury "As skilled as I am with a blade, I regret to say that their numbers were not from fear of me." Margaux shakes her head simply from side to side. "No, they fear what I fight for, who I fight for, and -why- I fight for them." The hunted woman explains as she outstretches her hands in a grandiose manner. A wry smile flashes towards Kaydin courtesy of Margaux. "Either that or they were sorely offended that their warehouse mysteriously burned to the ground mere moments after I had left."

The man before her was rather scary in what he -could- do, but he seemed amiable enough despite having just killed a man he did not know. Something to be cautious around no matter how well you know a person. "Messire Kaydin, a pleasure to meet you and an even greater one to see you slay my pursuers with such ease. Quite a lucky turn of events!" Having bowed once already, she skips that part of her introduction. "My name is Maguerite de Fleury, a wanderer too of sorts. But one with a purpose. Can you say the same for yourself, Messire Kaydin?"
Kaydin "My purpose is a complicated one yet simple as well. To defend those who are unable to defend themselves as well as defend my friends. Normally I deal with combating heartless but sometimes people come after me." Kaydin says as he would watch her. "So tell me your purpose, Maguerite de Fleury? Is it to look pretty while kicking butt?" He asks teasingly.
Margaux Fleury Margaux's smile widens when he describes his own purpose. Short and succinct, but a purpose that is very close to the woman's heart. "The valiant group I am apart of fights that very fight, messire. We, the Death Corps, are champions for the common soul." A gloved hand is used to gesture towards the fallen guard and knight. "The wars of the Nobility nearly destroyed my country, and now the Heartless also threaten my countrymen and women. But who strives to protect the farmers in villagers far from any city or garrison? Again, it is we, the Death Corps." A fox like smile is now adopted by the dancer/fencer. "So, messire Kaydin, you can say that normally I deal with combatting the influence of the Nobility, but sometimes Heartless come after me or those whom I have sworn to protect."

The tease from the deadly knight does wonders in keeping Margaux's demeanor light and cheerful. "Now that is merely an unintended side-effect I assure you. As inadvertant as the chance that you would appear out of nowhere and tip the scales in my favor. "
Kaydin "Truth be told I live out here in these woods. Since I have no home I been sleeping out here. I merely came to return to my campsite when I found those men after you. If you wish to join me, I wouldnt mind the company." Kaydin says as he offers her his arm.
Margaux Fleury Off in the distance, shouts of other guards seem to be drawing nearer just as the rumble of distant thunder can be heard. Both events bring dark tidings for the fleeing Margaux. However, she is being offered yet more charity from a mysterious, albeit handsome, stranger. There were worst mistakes to make in life.

Margaux accepts the offered arm with a curt nod being offered as she closes the distance. As ever, she would be cautious. But, one should never look a gift horse in the mouth...especially when being pursued by numerous hired mercenaries.

"I will accept your generous offer. But dare I say that we should get moving before more arrive in greater numbers than before." They surely could dispatch a great number between the two of them, but sometimes one should not press their luck.
Kaydin "I agree." He says as he would begin to walk off, leading her through some pretty unexplored portions of the woods before he lead her to the safety of his camp. There she could rest or eat what she wanted of his food.
