Sora
It's not his beach, and it's not with his friends, but lacking a clue how to travel between the worlds, Sora is coming to this beach, having picked up a ball on the way there and kicking it up in the sky. He may not be a professional player of ball games, but his control of that ball is good enough that even after several minutes it hasn't hit the ground yet.

Eventually, he gets bored and kicks the ball high in the sky, before kicking it off once more into the distance, rather suitable to hit someone who he hadn't noticed. He /was/ under the impression he was alone here, and for a long part of his ball playing, he was.
Maira Thud. "Owwww!" Maira exclaims after being smacked in the back of the head with a ball unexpectedly. Here she was, happily drawing in the sand with a stick and minding her own business when something hits her! Half afraid its a Heartless, she spins with fire primed in her hand and ready to shoot.

It is however, just a boy with gravity defying spiky hair.

Grumbling, Maira stands and picks up the ball, walking over toward Sora to return it. "Uhh...hey. Here's your ball. You kinda hit me with it. You should be more careful!" she informs him, as if she is anyone to talk!
Sora
The aggressive reaction causes a wary reaction by the boy itself, though Sora doesn't launch any kind of offensive or even prepare a spell, that glimpse of fire instinctively causes Sora's giant key to appear in his hand, as though by magic. When the fire goes, so does the key, and Sora heads over to accept the ball.

"Uh, sorry. I didn't realize anyone was here." His hand goes to the back of his head, rubbing there nervously as his mouth forms a goofy, apologetic, grin. "Thanks for giving me my ball back." His other hand takes the ball and kind of takes it under his shoulder.
Maira Maira has been fighting an awful lot of Heartless lately. She's jumpier than normal. When Sora takes back his ball and apologizes, Maira gives him a bright smile. "Its okay! Accidents happen. I was probably not very visible anyway..." she says, looking down to Sora's hand for a moment. "Was there just a giant key in your hand?" she asks, tilting her head in question. She's seen a lot of strange things, so she is probably willing to acknowledge a keyblade.

"Oh! I should introduce myself! I'm Maira," she informs him, holding out her hand (no longer on fire of course!) for him to shake.
Sarafina Carenze Sora's ball has bounced against Maira and she gave his ball back. Kids these days!

Sarafina Carenze, a woman nearing 40 years--though she may be saying she is nearing 40 for more than a decade--arrives on the beach. Did she come with Maira?? It is a mystery but what is not a mystery is the small smile on her face, as if taking some kind of glee in seeing two kids at play.

She doesn't interupt but she does take a sip of some /cool lemonade/ that she happens to have on her.

The eyes on the wings stare at Sora. Kids these days bring out their keyblade so easily. Just whip it out like that.

Not that Sarafina has any idea what a keyblade is, she looks confused by it.
Sora
Well that inquery causes Sora to more consciously summon his Keyblade, "Uh. Kind of? It's more of a weapon." He holds it up in a half-defensive, half-display position. Only then does he realize that there's someone else there, too, and he instinctively steps back, "Hi. I'm Sora."

Then he dismisses the keyblade again, the weapon just kind of disappearing, and takes Maira's hand, giving it a firm but nervous shake. "It's nice to meet you, Maira." Gaaaze back to Sarafina, "Uh. Those are some wings." He's sounding nervous again, but Sora tries not to make that too obvious. Which in itself is obvious.
Maira "Ooooh....huh! So you hit people with a giant key...thing! That's interesting," she says, examining it some with her gaze. "Cool! Hehe. Nice to meet you too Sora!"

She turns then, hearing a comment about wings. When Maira sees Sarafina, her eyes light up. "Oh hey! Sarafina! Yay! I'm so happy to see you again!" she says, springing forward for a quick hug. Hopefully, she doesn't just...step aside or something.
Sarafina Carenze That is a strange weapon, Sarafina thinks. She bows her head to Sora, a fair shade more polite than the wings. "Hello Sora," She says, still thinking of him as a kid and as such does not start the whole formality process of introductions. "They certainly are." She adds. "I am sorry for disturbing you, but I thought I saw my young fri--"

Mairattack! Sarafina seems amiable enough, returning the hug. "Hey there," She says smiling peacefully. "Making a new friend?
Sora
"Hey, Sarafina." Sora /is/ a kid, so he really doesn't mind the lack of formality. He hasn't even realized yet that having a keyblade is something special, "Are you Maira's mother?" What, it's not entirely impossible. Could be adopted or something like that, right? "I call it a keyblade, just seems like the logical thing to call it." Despite it looking more like an axekey.

"It's a bit of a weird story how I got this thing. I first got it when a bunch of heartle--whoa." As though summoned, a bunch of heartless appear close to the sea. Most of them look like pirate parodies, but there's also this huge armor that has its limbs float about individually. "Okay. Let's talk about that later."

Sora almost intuitively summons his keyblade again, while covering Sarafina, Maira and himself in a slight cloak of light that seems to be some kind of blessing. "I hope you guys know how to handle these things?" Not that they don't /look/ it, with Sarafina's entire appearance, and Maira seemingly knowing magic.
Maira "My mother? No no no...." she replies, flushing. "Just a friend! My mother's been gone for....well, a long time," she informs.

Luckily, before she get's sympathy-eyes, heartless appear! ...Okay, luckily isn't the best word.

Sigh. She wanted to hear the story! Seems these things must be dealt with first however. When Maira turns toward the Heartless, she looks more annoyed than afraid. This is becoming old hat fast. Clenching her hand into a fist, she ignites it like a torch. "Yes. Lets do this," she says, then punches forward to send three magical blasts of fire toward the group of Heartless.
Sarafina Carenze Sarafina's eyes (hers, not the wing's) widen in shock at the question. She is stunned. Soras say the darnedest things. They don't really look alike do they? Well, it's embarrassing but not rude. Maira is such a sweet girl, her mother must've been really something!

Before she recovers fully, heartless attack! Sarafina has never been so happy to be ambushed in her life. Though it's strange--why are the Heartless attacking here? Why now? Is it just a random encounter? It seems like the child has experience fighting them.

"Aye," She says. "I've fought them before." Two kids, they're capable but they're still kids. They have a lot more life ahead of them than she does. This doesn't seem serious, but should it prove neccessary...

Sora seems to know magic too. Power seems to fill her and she says, "You seem to have hidden depths. A good story tugs on one's anticipation, but do not leave your listeners waiting too long!"

The small ones first, Sarafina thinks. Pummeling on the big one right off the bat will leave the small ones to counterattack too easily, leave her too open.

She charges forward, intending to flat out punch one, the gauntlet on her right hand glowing a bright red as she follows through on a second strike and with a swift move draws out the chainsaw and swings it--intending to knock a group of them back.
Sora
The fire, it burns. Some of the pirates fall to it, though they do not seem afraid of it and move forwards to be more a threat, some swarming towards Maira and Sora, while the others stay closer to Sarafine. And about Sarafine, it seems ignoring the big one isn't a good idea either, the guard armor just deflects those strikes as though they weren't even happening.

And then there's the counter, without fear the heartless move to strike, several of the pirates swarming around, striking our band of heroes (or trying to at least) while the guard armor initiates an assault, and all the while the free claws of the armor spin around the beach turned battlefield dangerously. The fight has begun.
Maira Actually, Maira's mom was sort of a bitch. Sarafina is a way, way better mom!

Also, she's totally BADASS! Maira's jaw drops as Sarafina charges in with chainsaw raised. "W-wow...that's really something..." she comments as she watches the winged woman go.

The Heartless are not down yet though. They never fall easy. Maira's lips form a thin line as she concentrates, preparing for her next attack. She will have to aim carefully with Sarafina in the melee.

The Heartless advance, but Maira is ready for them! She throws up a quick wall of flame that keeps them from hitting her, before striking back. The glow of fire and the light from her materia surrounds her as she raises her arms and begins to call upon the powers of the earth itself. Before them then, the ground begins to shake and crack open. Hopefully some of the Heartless will fall into the pit created. Those who don't fall, will soon find themselves burning once more in the fury of her flames.
Sora
Sora is apparently faster than he looks, he manages to avoid the pirates and the guard armor, and Maira does the same. He sees Sarafina is getting hit there in the distance, but he can't tell how badly and she's armoured so he assumes she'll be fine. He charges some nearby heartless, his keyblade moving to strike, hoping to bring the heartless up in the air where...

Fire comes. Happy, rapidly moving painful fire. Especially since Maira seems to be a fire user, and /Sora's/ fire helps other firebrands as well. Somewhere in there, he also tries to squeeze in a bit of magic to drag down the effectiveness of these Heartless.
Sarafina Carenze Sarafina continues to blissfully think Maira's mother was a wonderful person and taught Maira to be a wonderful and that is why she is little annie? With fireballs? She'd probably be all ablush if she knew what Maira was thinking. She doesn't hear the one comment because she's swinging a huge weapon around and her heart is pounding and her head is pounding and she actually gets clobbered a few times before managing to swing her weapon to get them off her.

She ignites the jetpack and turns on the chainsaw, which emits a loud brrrrrrrrrrrrng that is likely even muffled by the much louder PSCHOOOO of the jetpack, she hovers up into the air--not much, but enough to get some air. This probably only makes her look more ridiculous.

She breathes heavily and sweats--that obviously was a palpable clawing strike, but she seems ready to give more. She slams her chainsaw down against the group, spinning around it in a ridiculous air-to-ground strike before slamming her first down in a quick strike against one of the pirate heartless--then spinning her own body around to try and snap a kick at the larger one so it doesn't get too comfortable. This may make it hard to aim around her, but she doesn't seem to mind.

Despite her formality, she is also an engineer from Baron.
Sora
Some heartless perish to Sora's attacks, others to Maira's magic, and they remain mostly elusive to Sarafina's onslaught, only her counterattack having any really noticable effect on them. Numbers of the heartless are dwindling, but they aren't dead yet, and it's clear they're not gonna give up, a slightly disproportionate amount of them focusing on Sora.

And things go bad quickly. Without much of a warning, the area starts to become heavy and thick, making it hard to speak and tough to talk about much. Several strikes are launched in quick succession, each seeming nastier than the last, and at the end of it this big heartless armor seems to pull back on itself, the head flying up into the sky and in that time the remainder flips upside dawn, the head returning to the lower area.

Adn then it spins very rapidly to try to make the situation worse. This is probably not good.
Sora
This really does look bad, Sora gets beaten about by the heartless quite a bit, and the heavy air makes it difficult for him to perform his magic, but he attempts to anyway. "Keep fighting." He almost desparately instructs as he starts to weave more magic. This time, it's more white magic than ever, weaving curative effects into that spell as rapidly as he can.

Only once he looks at Sarafina as he targets her with his magic does he realize she's off the worst, and he calls out, "Hang in there! We can do this." He hopes to be motivating, and he knows that this fight isn't lost, at least not yet.
Maira Then comes the turning point. There always is one. It wouldn't be a fight if a Heartless didn't almost break her poor body like so many dried twigs beneath the feet of a behemoth. The young woman screams as she is blown back, hitting the sand hard, battered but not quite beaten. The hammer of flame that forms as her counter to the hit never gets the chance to fully manifest, sadly.

She is prepared to heal herself, but it would seem that Sora also has this ability. She feels a familiar healing energy wash over her, easing some of her pain. More significant however, is the magic dampening Silence is purged. Her mana courses strong in her veins.

Slowly, Maira gets to her feet, her head bowed. Her wild blond hair veils her face until she looks up, her amber eyes filled with determination. "Thanks...Sora..." she says, then takes a deep breath. "Uist...Uist...go!" she cries, and before he forms a a red misty cloud shaped vaguely like a large man--with wings. Those wings outstretch as he lets out a roar and charges the large Heartless, passing right through the body and out the other side, ripping at the essence of the beast to give some strength back to Maira.

Maira, eyes flashing, blasts the Heartless with another wallop of flame that blooms like a rose as it makes contact.
Sarafina Carenze Sarafina is distracted at a key moment by something unusual. The hearts flying out of the heartless when Sora takes one out--that's not something that happens when she does it. It's strange and notable, even if she doesn't know what it means.

It's not a good time to be distracted. Sarafina is slammed back and crashes to the ground, skidding a few feet before sliding to a stop. Despite the flashiness, it is not as if the Heartless have fear, right?

Hang in there, we cna do this?
Yes, undoubtedly they CAN do this. The healing magic makes Sarafina feel a lot better, her wounds knitting closed before her very eyes. She misses the White Mages of Baron but it seems this fellow can do all sorts of magic. And is a swordsman besides. A keyswordsman, to be fair.

Maira's--well it seems like a summon to Sarafina--magic is also alarming. For a moment, she seems deeply troubled and sad--but she shakes it off quickly. No time.

"Sora." Sarafina says. "These Heartless are strong. I will try and hold their attention, you should use this moment to take Maira to safety." She feels she can trust him. He makes her feel like he's a young soldier, full of hope--a bit naive, but ultimately goodhearted. "We will rendeavoux later." She adds to make clear she has no intent to sacrifice herself. "But I will not let harm come to either of you simply because we can win."

She flies forward once more, intending to tackle into the heartless and punch them repeatedly. It's a lot less fancy.
Sora
Suddenly the tide seems to turn again, and though the heartless have yet to stop their ferocious onslaught, Maira and Sarafine manage to lay on a /lot/ of hurt. And there's not that many of them left anymore, one of the hands (originally feet) of the armor has been destroyed, and as a whole it seems as though this fight can be won.

And as such, that can only mean that the heartless refuse to do anything but go all out like no-one has gone all-out before, every offensive tool at their disposal is used to make this count, and they're focusing unhealthily much on Sora. Which would probably make it tough for Sora to lead Maira to safety.
Maira "No way! I'm not leaving you!" Maira shouts to Sarafina. Besides, Sora is under assault! It is looking like he needs the help more than she does!

....Or....not....

Maira isn't even sure what happened. One moment she's conscious, ready to sling magic to protect them all--then she's unconscious, her body crumpling to the sand in a heap.

The blood-red incorporeal form of Uist lets out a howl of rage, then disperses.
Sora
Sora sees Maira goes down, and that leaves his own defenses open, and he himself nearly goes down too. He's realizing the situation is getting more serious than he thought it was and he's afraid he just doesn't have the time to go slow, and as such he just goes all out, drinking a few liquids to allow him to go as all out as he feels he needs to.

And all out he goes, his keyblade suddenly attempting to hit every last heartless, aiming to knock them up even higher in the air and once he's got them /there/ he'll just blast magic at them like there's no tomorrow, several fireballs. It's probably a somewhat impressive display, but it's also driven by desparation. He can't flee if he's surrounded like this, and he doesn't want to leave Maira there. So he hopes he can take them out and get Maira to safety.
Sarafina Carenze The Heartless swarm. Sarafina is proud of Maira's resolve, but whatever strange power Sora may possess--he's still clearly inexperienced. And Sarafina--she has been careless.

The heartless push into her, ripping her armor to shreds, blood spraying from multiple strikes against her wings and chest. She stays in the air, somehow, but sees Maira go down to the Heartless. Is she still alive? Yes, it seems, but soon--

She roars not unlike a dragon. She says many words not appropriate for a kid-friendly game, and says things that are impolite as to what she intends to do to the Heartless.

But it's okay, you probably can't hear these things anyway because after a few quick strikes from fist and foot, she spins around the heartless rapidly, chainsaw a blur of motion as it cleaves, cleaves, cleaves, a small 'tornado' of her own rippling around her as she strikes.

Seems like a nerve got touched.
Sora
Though Maira might not be awake to see it, the combined onslaughts of Sora amd Sarafina are enough to take out the heartless that were still standing. It was clearly a tough fight, both Sora and Sarafina seem wounded, and Maira is just knocked out like that, but they're gone. For now at least.

Sora takes one and a half second to catch his breath before he turns to the others, recognizing that he, himself, is in a better physical state than the others right now, he splits his magic over the other two before taking the last potion he carried with him. He hopes it'll be enough to get Maira back up, because if it isn't, he's running out of 'juice', as it were.
Maira Sora's healing is just enough to bring her back to consciousness, but she is not looking good! Luckily, she has some curative magic of her own.

Maira takes a deep breath as she casts on herself, a green/white energy suffusing her. "Nnnng...."
Sarafina Carenze Sarafina Carenze lands, panting heavily, the jetpack turns off--the flames dissipitating. As an afterthought, Sarafina flicks the chainsaw off, and sets it down on the beach. It's too heavy and she is too tired from sudden exertion to carry it properly. She approaches Sora and Maira as the latter regains conciousness.

"Thank you for helping her," She tells him, not interrupting the cast. She crouches and looks for Maira's eyes before wordlessly giving her a hug. She doesn't let her go immediately either. Her face is stained with tears she had not noticed while screaming like a maniac.
Sora
Sora sits down. Slumps might be a better word. "I'm sorry I didn't get Maira to safety, Sarafina. I just... couldn't. There were too many." It's a serious tone, not quite like before the heartless arrived, but he does finish it up with a simple, more cheerful statement, "Told you we could do this."

Though the danger seems subsided by now, Sora doesn't dismiss the keyblade yet, it remains in his hand, though the ball is nowhere to be seen. Must have gotten lost in the fight somewhere. "As I was saying, a lot of heartless attacked my home, and then this keyblade appeared and I suddenly got a handle on fighting through what seemed like endless waves of them. I beat up a really big one and then they seemed to subside."

Sora looks up at the eternal night sky, "And the next thing I know is that I woke up in this Traverse Town. I've heard people say they met Riku, but I haven't heard anything from or about Kairi yet. I hope she's alright."
Maira After her own heal, she's feeling a bit better. Still hurting. Going to take more potions than she carries to get her fully healed, along with a good bit of rest.

Maira's eyes flutter open as Sarafina holds her, her face turns to look up at the older woman's face. Maira blinks several times, looking confused and concerned. "Sarafina, why are you crying?" she asks quietly. "You guys killed it, right?"

Maira struggles to sit up, looking to Sora with wide eyes. "Your world too? Mine was...that happened to mine and I woke up in Traverse Town. I live there now...I guess...I had to flee through this doorway...Uist lead me there."
Sarafina Carenze Sarafina Carenze smiles faintly. "Next time say 'we will do this'." It turned out well so she isn't going to push the issue. The positive attitude is pretty infectious too. Besides, he's a boy, some impetuousness is good for a boy, she thinks. He does seem to take the situation seriously in any event which is all she can ask of a soldier, right? Especially since he really isn't one. She listens to the story. Seems like the keyblade has /something/ to do with the heartless, but he doesn't seem to be controlling him. Indeed, that keyblade seemed to do something 'extra' to the heartless. But why would they be after him? Is it fear? Hunger? She doesn't know. Maybe he just smells good.

She isn't letting go for a while.

"For a moment, I thought we lost you." She whispers.
Maira Maira seems content to just be held. It is a very strange thing that hasn't happened to her in a long time. When was the last time someone just held her?

"Oh...nah, I'm hear...I've been worse..." she says. Sadly, its true. She's been closer to death before! Still, she's not feeling so great. She's overwhelmed with the need to sleep. "Imma just..." she begins, her eyes drifting shut. Then, she's asleep.
Sora
"Okay, I will." Sora answers with a goofy grin. He's still clearly wary but he's not going to mope or be all serious about it. Watching Maira fall asleep he can't help but yawn, and then he gets up. "I'm going to get back to the hotel and sleep. I hope I'll feel better tomorrow." He even dimisses his keyblade, "I'd ask you to look after Maira, make sure she's fine, but I'm sure you will even unasked."

He turns around and runs off, for a tired boy he sure has a lot of energy remaining.
