Familiar Strangers
(2012-10-09 - 2012-10-09)
No description.
Zeke It has been a VERY long day for Herr Capitan. His crew was coming together admirably yes, but he just had to sack a few ofthem for insubordination and now he was looking for replacements. That and he was hungry. So there he was staring at a fish taco cart wondering just what this guy was selling.
Auron A long day indeed. Word had gotten around about the willingness of one red overcoat-wearing samurai's willingness to do just about anything for money, and things were starting to get ridiculous for him in Traverse Town. Extracting cats out of trees? Come on. Mail delivery hadn't gone well at all. And this is not getting into the request for him to juggle swords to entertain at a party. That request he'd had to turn down. Auron was no one's fool.

Having just gotten finished with his latest request -- some kind of bodyguard/escort deal; he didn't ask what or why -- Auron's trip back to the inn puts him in the same area as Zeke. The captain's was a face he remembered... he was the other one in Luca who had dealt with the Heartless.

Auron pauses a moment, to note the look on the other man's face. And as Zeke seems confused, he approaches. He won't sneak up on Zeke -- even if he'd wanted to, the sound of his boots on the streets probably gives him away -- so he should be heard approaching. Thus he doesn't see the problem with speaking suddenly. "...Something wrong?" he inquires.
Sora
It's been a very long day for Sora as well. He's travelled through basically all of Traverse Town, trying to explore every nook and cranny, and yet he's still not sure where everything is. He has found himself back in this district, but not in the most ideal of situtations, as he's chasing a heartless who seems to have stolen his necklace.

He's not slowing down any, but with the larger amount of people here it's getting more difficult to chase that heartless, and eventually he decides to risk it, he points the keyblade at the heartless and casts a spell of fire, sending a blast of that energy towards the heartless.

Of course, though these things are homing, they can still be manipulated and blocked. The heartless ducks behind the taco stand, and the fire spell isn't agile enough to go /around/ it.
Zeke Zeke looked from Auron to the Taco Vender. "I know it has fish in it, and it smells good." He pays the man and gets a taco. "I just don't know what it is."

Then a few things happen.

Heartless comes barreling thorugh, which causes Zeke to pull a gun out and aim. Only for a fireball to turn the cart said heartless was hiding behind extra crispy. This caused him to throw his other arm over his face and try hopping back away from the bright flashy spellwork.

It should be noted he never dropped his taco.
Auron Okay, fire is generally a bad thing when it's aimed at you. Auron may be dead, but he's still got enough cohesion to have to worryabout getting flambéd. Besides that, has to protect the coat. Now, he's not too speedy a fellow in combat, that's for sure. But that doesn't mean he can't /see/ what's going on, and his mind works to try to counteract any damage to someone's person.

Zeke appears to be speedy enough to dodge out of the way. Auron expected this, from having seen the man fighting in Luca. However, the vendor of the cart is something else. He may or may not have any combat abilities. So, since Zeke seems fairly safe, Auron will concentrate on the vendor.

He quickly sidles around the cart, making a grab for the vendor's arm and trying to pull the vendor around behind him, before that poor vendor ends up getting flamed too. With luck, Auron will be able to put himself between the vendor and the exploding taco cart!
Sora
The taco cart doesn't explode, it just gets a little charred. A fresh lick of paint and nobody will notice anything ever happened to that cart. Everybody is fine, but there's still one important thing here. "Where did it go?!" Sora calls out, looking for a heartless that has left his sight. This is everything he feared during this chase, and he starts comically looking below tables and behind stalls searching for that one little shadow that stole his necklace.
Zeke Zeke frowned as he scanned the area. "Nobody move!" His voice carried quite well. " Hie looked around slowly, eyeing for shadows. Then he grinned and knelt down as if he saw some glimer of something. Sora's necklace perhaps?

"Gotcha." His pistol fired into the thick shadows under the cart. Even if the musket ball didn't hit anything musket fire tends to have actual fire coming out of the barrel. So no more shadows, even if only for a split moment, for the wee heartless to hide in.
Auron Okay, no exploding. That's always good. Once he's sure no explosion will be taking place. Auron releases his grip on the vendor. Though he will prevent said vendor from going back to the cart just yet. There's a reason the young man fired on the cart, and it wasn't the vendor. Otherwise he'd have /aimed/ for the vendor.

And when Zeke starts looking underneath the cart and firing, Auron's convinced of it. So for the time being, he will keep bystanders back, just in case whatever's down there does some exploding of its own.

Or in case the young man who fired on the cart does. Having raised a boy who could take most normal people's heads off with a well-placed Blitzball, Auron is not one to underestimate someone because of perceived youth. In fact, now that he looks better at /this/ particular youth, he looks familiar...

With all the chaos going on around them, it's quite possible that the ever-so-slight widening of that remaining eye, the slight half-step back, and the quiet drawn-in breath of surprise may go unnoticed entirely....
Sora
The heartless goes smoosh. That's good, and it's just around then that Sora notices where the heartless went, moving to pick up his chain necklace, making him even more similar to that youth Auron knows, and putting it around his neck before straightening up, his free hand scratching the back of his head while he has this cheesy grin. "Uh, hi. Thanks." That's to Zeke.

Then he realizes that he's just shot a blast of fire at a food vendor's stand and, well. "Uh sorry. This heartless stole my necklace, I wanted it back." It's... an explanation, "I missed, didn't mean to hit the stand." He's talking to Auron as though /Auron/ was the vendor, not some innocent bystander. Or maybe he thinks Auron is a cop of some kind. Both would explain his behavior.
Zeke Zeke straightened and looked to the vendor before smiling. "What the kid's trying to say is one of those shadow creatures," He looked to Auron then, "Heartless i think a few of you folk call 'em right?"

He then waved off any potential answer as unimportant. "Apparently this one stole something from young lad here and I'm very sure he's very sorry." Another smile, this one to Sora before taking a bite of the taco he'd been hanging onto. "Hm... Not sure what kind of fish this is. Tomato. Onion. A few spices... Hm some other stuff not sure what it is." He took another bite before looking at the Vendor, "So, mate, how much would your entire stock cost?" He eyed the cart again, this time doubtfully. "Actually I'm not sure if all you've got would be enough. I've got a crew I want to feed. Pretty sure they'd love this. At least i know the Shighai twins would."
Auron About the time Sora's turning to him to explain, it might be semi-appropriate for him to think he might be an officer of some kind. The only part of his face visible above that collar -- not to mention those shades -- would be his eyebrows, and they're drawn in a frown. It would take serious consideration to note that the frown his not one of displeasure. However, if that moment is taken? It's a sad expression.

That expression fades from his face a moment later, and the unreadable expression comes back as Zeke begins to explain what happened. It's a good thing Auron doesn't bother to confirm or deny the claim of 'Heartless' as the creature's species. He's also now fine with letting the vendor return to the stand and salvage what can be salvaged from the incident.

In fact, while Zeke is speaking to the vendor, Auron takes a few slow steps over to where the young man who had made the ruckus over the necklace stands. "...What's your name?" he inquires. Not one for mincing words, is he? But then... the similarities are almost as glaring as the differences. Still, he needs to know this.
Sora
"I'm Sora." The boy's answer comes easy, he's not trying to hide who he is, not that he really could with that huge key he's carrying around here. He notices Auron's calmed down expression, and seems to be a little relieved and freaked out at the same time. Who /is/ this guy? Sora peers a little. There's just /something/ familiar about Auron but he can't figure out what.

Meanwhile, Sora all but ignores Zeke, not out of /intentional/ rudeness but just because Auron's caught his attention.
Zeke Zeke tipped his hat to Auron. "Nice working with you again." Then a slight bow to Sora and a grin. "Hate to burst your bubble duckie but aint no doors big enough for a key like that." Then without any warning or preamble he saunters off to leave the two to their own devices.
Auron Auron nods once, slowly, to the offering of Sora's name. He looks to the young man and then to the giant key. Coincidentally just as Zeke tips his hat and speaks. He turns, giving a slightly amused 'hnf' at the captain's words. He offers a second nod, this one to Zeke in acknowledgment of the parting words.

As he notes Zeke beginning to amble away, he turns his attention back to Sora. Though he doesn't speak. It might be a slightly awkward moment, in fact, with Auron's gaze fixed on Sora with that unreadable expression, and Auron not speaking. But if the man in the red coat feels it's awkward, he doesn't register it outwardly.
Sora
Awkward moments are awkward, Sora has this awkward cheesy grin again as his hand reaches to scratch the back of his head, "Uh. Who are you?" It breaks the silence, and since Auron already asked for /his/ name Sora doesn't think it's going to cause problems to ask. With the comments about the keyblade, Sora just ... kind of makes it disappear.

Sora keeps looking at Auron, now more closely, and suddenly asks, "Uh. Do I know you? You seem familiar for some reason but I can't tell why." Well that's that said, and Sora now just waits for a reaction, big hopeful eyes looking up.
Auron The disappearance of the giant key gives Auron pause, and he looks to the fading light that is all that's left of the thing. And even that's soon gone. It draws a momentary raise of the brow of his remaining eye, but he doesn't mention it. He turns his attention instead to the question.

At least he's turned his attention off of Sora, at least directly. He's still there, but he's not looking directly at Sora; he's turned slightly, so that the right side of his face is turned more towards the young man. But both his eyes can still be seen. Or rather, they could be if those glasses weren't in the way. And to that question? "...Auron," he offers in response. He's quiet until Sora pipes up with the comment of him being familiar.

His remaining eye closes, and he shakes his head slowly. "...No." A pause. His voice is quiet as he says the next, almost sad. "...You... reminded me of someone. I thought you were him for a moment."
Sora
"Oh. I'm sorry." Sora seems a bit confused by the situation, and it's still really awkward, and well. Uhm. "Well anyway. I'm trying to find my friends, have you maybe ran into one of them?" Nervous but still goofy grin. "There's Riku, silvery white hair and really confident. There's also Kairi, she's a redhead and really sweet."

"I've met people who say they've seen Riku but I haven't heard anything about Kairi yet, so I'm looking for any sign of her though it'd probably help if I worked together with Riku on that, but I haven't seen /him/ since the heartless came and..." Deep breath in the midst of the run-on sentence, "I gotta keep looking as they're my friends, and friends stick together."
Auron Sora describes his friends... and then goes on to talk about them and describe them and tell how they need to stick together and how he'll keep looking and -- well, you get the idea. Auron doesn't interrupt. The corner of his mouth turns up a little, in a small smirk. Once he's sure Sora's finished, he nods.

"...I've not seen them," he replies quietly. "...But I'll keep an eye out." A pause, and he remembers something he'd seen. "...You are not alone. Displacement seems common here. Others have lost track of friends as well. You may want to locate someone from Traverse Maniacs. It often brings such missing persons to public attention."

He may also be admitting that he's looking for someone, too, without really openly admitting to anything at all....
Sora
"I know. I'll keep looking." Sora seems cheerful enough, and with the ice broken and Sora clearly aware that they really don't have any business with eachother right now, Sora steps back. "I guess I'll get started on that tomorrow, but it's getting late and I'll need a place to sleep. Maybe we'll run into eachother again, Auron, and if so I'll let you know if I have ever ran into someone who could be mistaken for me from a distance."
Auron The comment of letting Auron know if Sora finds someone he himself could be mistaken for draws a slight huff of an exhalation, one that might have been a chuckle, given the closing of his eye and the momentary softening of his expression. Now, one might easily get the feeling that Auron is the type to not say much. And one would not be far off the mark in thinking this.

However, as Sora mentions it's late? Auron feels compelled to speak, to offer assistance. He doesn't know how long Sora's been in Traverse, but nonetheless, he turns his head to look towards the inn. "...There's an inn. You should still be able to find a room there if you haven't yet." And then so Sora doesn't get freaked out when he heads in that direction, too? "...I was going there myself."
