How Aerith Got Her Groove Back, Finale
(2012-12-16 - 2013-07-22)
Aerith gets her new toy, taking her first steps into a world of possibilities. Making a vow not to rely on her materia during the extent of her training, she makes plans to further her knowledge in preparation for the eventual retaking of Manhattan.
Pixi It had been the better part of a day or so since Aerith and Pixi had arrived in the grove, and the tree asked for Aerith's former staff. Now, as Pixi stretched out her legs in the soft clover, Ixilthian walked around the Elder tree with Aerith's new staff in hand. She treated it carefully wrapped in a cloth, as if touching it with her hands would be a sin. But she walked to Aerith and smiled to her. "Aerith.....your new staff..."
Aerith She'd been out.

Aerith refused to just sit there and wait. Call it impatience, call it a need to further herself, but either way, she'd left. After locking onto Pixi's subtle energy patterns, she made her way back to the grove without effort and continued her meditation. Thus when the dragon returned, she was there waiting.

Aerith opened her eyes and stood, taking the tool in her hands. Silk cloth wrapped the weapon, as if it were something just that precious. She tested its weight, its balance.

Then she looked up with a smile. "May I?"
Pixi "It is yours now, Aerith." Ixilthian says before laying the weapon in her hands, stepping back. She then reverts back to her dragon form and simply watches near the tree that dwarfs even the dragon, along with other members of that particular grove.

Pixi stays nearby, but not very close. She figures Aerith will want to test the staff herself for balance and weight. She actually tugged her stick off of her arm and looked at it for a moment, running her hand lovingly over it before looking up to the tree and the great red dragon, in a definite thank you.
Aerith The Cetra repeated Pixi's motions, save for a more pronounced bow than she'd given earlier. It was unspoken that she'd use this for the right reasons.

With that, she turned toward the way from whence she'd come and, as quietly as she'd come in, made her way out. She didn't expect to see this place again, but if she did, she'd have to stay for longer. Once she made her exit, she unwrapped the silk and just... stared at it.

Six feet long, with a one-and-a-quarter inch diameter. The wood was a milky white, polished to sheen and smoothed to a finish. She closed her eyes and reached out to the staff, and it responded to her call, a gentle but firm presence.

Aerith felt the need to cry, but found herself incapable of it, as if her body refused to waste tears on this.

She opened her eyes and turned toward Pixi. "We need to test this thing."
Pixi Pixi took much longer to leave the grove than before, since she had a LOT of friend to say goodbye to, at least temporarily. Even the tree got a hug from her, for it was one of her dearest friends, as was the dragon, whom she showed no fear to as she hugged the massive dragon around the neck. But the tree, leaned a branch down and touched Pixi on the forehead, which a symbol glows upon her forhead, and disappeared. She gives the tree another hug before trotting out of the grove, and the view of it disappeared.

She then looked to Aerith and chuckled. "That's on you first, Aerith. You have to test it for comfort first."
Aerith Aerith glanced at the staff, stopped after a few more steps, and put one end against the ground. She lifted her right arm above her head and glanced at the weapon, then her forearm. The top end of the staff met just below her wrist, and she mentally counted how high exactly that was. Seven inches above her head... which was just fine. With a nod, she looked toward Pixi. "You might want to step back a bit."

With that warning given, Aerith took the staff in both hands with an overhand grip... and started a slow figure eight with the weapon, whirling it from side to side. Aerith picked up the pace until the weapon was a blur of motion, then after three more turns and a forward step, Aerith turned over, held the back third of the staff, and with a hop into the air, brought it down hard.

A flash of pale green energy pulsed along the rod as she swung, and when she hit the forest floor, dirt and leaves kicked up, leaving an indent that was much deeper than said strike should have been able to produce. Aerith smiled as she stood, the tip of the staff still against the ground, and leaned forward a bit. The staff... bent, just enough to give without breaking.

Aerith grinned. "It's perfect."
Pixi Pixi smiles. "Good. I had a feeling they would get the staff the way you wanted it." She says before she continues to walk. "Then it is truly yours, Aerith." She says softly. "Let's head on back to Seventh heaven. You'll get plenty of chances to use it, but There may be hidden secrets for the staff." She then holds up her stick. "I still haven't learned all of the secrets of this."
Aerith Flowergirl nodded. "Yeah, I know. I'm probably going to take a while learning how to use this all over again..." But she didn't have a while. She had, at best, days to learn what she could and use it to advantage. One thing was for sure, though... "I'm going to have to stop using materia for a good while. It won't do to use the same things I've been using if I'm going to really dig into this." Oh they were effective, sure enough... but they weren't enough anymore.
