Leida The evenings are prime time business for arcades. Children have returned home for the day from school, ditching their homework in favor of flashy electronic entertainment. Parents accompany the younger crowd who gather around the less complex games like skiiball, mini-hoops, and other ticket-rewarding machines so as to earn enough for their favorite prizes. There are also the middle aged types who gravitate towards the more 'hardcore' games, tearing into each other with primal fury in competative fighting games or throwing their carefully honed skills at beat-em-ups, shooters, and other standard arcade fare.

No matter their chosen variety of gaming, the people here are all caught up in the arcade mood of flashy lights, dinging bells, and jovial social outings. All except one.

A small girl stands near the entrance of the broad game-laden room. Long hair drapes neatly down back of a baggy sweater jacket that is much too large for her. Her hands are hidden inside the sleeves and the bottom hem of the garment rests around her knees, making it look more like a strange dress than a cold weather garment.

The girl's expression is one of idle curiosity, her eyes half-open and lazily drifting from place to place as she takes in the foreign sight. Machines in her world were still no more complex than waterwheels and catapults. The concept of electricity is completely foreign, to say nothing of computers. The dazzling array of sights and sounds that might seem completely ordinary and mundane to dwellers of the Big City has her completely captivated.
Megavolt To an average New Yorker, the arcade seems like a place of fun and games, to be had at a reasonable price. To Megavolt, however, it looks like a sweat shop, pharaoh whipping slaves, a prison, or even a death camp. This fiendish place is where machines are enslaved for quarters, in order to please their human overseers. This house of horrors is home to dozens of lightbulbs, arcade machines, coin machines, vending machines, and other brave, patriotic machine citizens of the Multiverse, here being jostled and tilted about by their human bully overlords. It's too much for Megavolt to stand!

"That's it, you sickos!" comes a cry from the front, as Megavolt charges into the arcade, wearing his plug suit and battery. He stops as some people turn to face him, electricity dancing off his extended finger as he shouts, "This place of machine slavery shall enslave machines no more! I, lord of light bulbs, MEGAVOLT, will see to it that you all pay for your abuse to these poor creations of science!"
Leida The sudden declaration gets the attention of most of those near the front of the arcade who can see what the commotion's source is. A few laugh at the strange costumed rodent but most turn and start to chatter amongst themselves, a din of concerned curiosity filling the building.

One of the senior staff members in a red apron with the logo embroidered on the front makes his way over to Megavolt and rubs the back of his neck, not quite sure how to deal with this unusual situation. "Um... look... mouse? You're upsetting the customers so if you could please keep it down and make sure to schedule any parties ahead of time, we'd appreciate it."

The girl turns to watch this strange new arrival as well with her blank expression, silent for now.
Megavolt "YOU!" Megavolt hisses, seeing the man in that accursed red apron. This is one of the slavemasters themselves! Megavolt walks right up to him, jabbing that sparking finger in the poor employee's chest, giving him a quick zap that would lay out any normal human. "You profit off this horrible, horrible place! Oh, the humanity, you've got little balls inside them! THE HUMANITY!" He turns to the people, swinging his finger out in an arc. "THIS CONTINUES NO MORE! Like Nikola Tesla, I will bring the great vengeance of SCIENCE and LOGIC on all of you!" He points his finger at the sky, blocking the exit out, and fires a blast into the ceiling. "Quiver in terror, mortals!"
Leida The shock knocks the manager onto his rear, twitching and cringing from aftershocks running across his body. That combined with the next declaration and several ceiling tiles exploding gets the panic flowing.

The parents with young children are the first to react, running for their progeny and scooping them up to flee further into the building or huddling over them protectively. Some of the older and bolder customers gather up and try to rush the rat, aiming to tackle him to the floor since there are no makeshift weapons present.

Those in the back of the arcade begin to scream and rush for the emergency exits, having no good indication on what the source of the explosion might be and in a short time the entire place is a scene of chaos.

At this the girl looks confused, tilting her head to the side like a bird examining something it's never seen before. After a few moments, her attention turns to Megavolt again and she takes a good look at him, her twisted mind trying to make sense of his odd gear.

"Your shackles look heavy... you poor thing..." She moves towards him, clutching her hands over her heart and staring at the floor. "I am to be pitied as well..."
Megavolt Megavolt jumps into the air and over the tackling customers, letting them fly past and into each other. "Huzzah! You have not met the likes of Megavolt, you fiendish monsters!" He spins around behind him, sweeping several lances of electricity into the patrons that just tried to tackle him. He spins about, ready to unleash more voltage, before he sees Leida. "Huh?" His eyes move left and right, not knowing how to deal with this. "Why would you...Pity...Huh...I mean, I've got this cool suit, and these powers, and - OH GOD WHY WHY WON'T THE PAIN END!" He drops to his knees, letting out a horrible moan. "I can't even remember how I got here! Nobody wants to date a giant spark plug! MY ONLY FRIEND IS A LIGHTBULB! WWWWWHHHHHHYYYYY?!"
Leida The arcade goers tangle into a jumble as their attempt at assault fails, earning them each a powerful shock that knocks them unconscious for the moment. People continue to scream and tear out of the building around them but no one else makes for an attempt at Megavolt himself, the crowd simply parting around the super-charged rodent and the eerie little girl.

"Don't worry..." Leida holds her arms up, as if to embrace him as she slowly plods closer and closer. "I'll be your friend... I'll make the pain go away..."

A faint nimbus of sickly purple light suddenly surrounds her body, wavering like a heat mirage in the ambient arcade lightshow. The light creeps into her eyes, illuminating the dead empty stare with shimmering soulless fires. The shadows seem to rise up about her body as she draws near, twisting from ethereal puddles of blackness into a towering mass that rises up as demonic clawed limbs, reaching and raking at the empty air behind her.

She smiles. "Forever..."
Megavolt As the light show begins, Megavolt opens his mismatched eyes, the eyes widening in horror as he sees the shadows with limbs, along with the glow in her pupils. "Hey, hey, wait a second...Things are bad, but...Jesus, woman, what ARE you?!" he asks as he scrambles back to his feet and backs away, now terrified of the little girl, his bravery melting away like so much candle wax.
Leida "What am I...?" The question makes her pause for a moment, eyes dropping to the floor. "I... am..." She shakes her head, concentrating but the look passes after a moment. Her expression shifts becoming more sinister and creepy, the smile turning faintly devilish as the shadows rise up over her body, obscuring half of her face with inky stains.

"We are... a doll... yes... just a pretty little... doll..."

The arms surge into motion, rushing at Megavolt. Wickedly curved talons easily the size of a human reach out to gash at his body and upon contact the arm melts into an amorphous mass of darkness, surging around his body like poisonous water. It pulls at him, tearing at his soul and trying to drag Megavolt down into the depths of the void.

"Wouldn't you like... to be a doll... too? Hehehe..."
Megavolt Megavolt screams in terror as the liquid darkness stretches over him, the scream reaching a girlish pitch as he feels his soul being tugged away. "AAAAGH! OH MY GOD IT HURTS!" he shrieks, stumbling backwards into a wall, the darkness flowing all around him as he's pinned in place. "You get back! GET BACK!" he continues to cry, forcing a finger out and firing a quick bolt of lightning at Leida that cracks between them with a flash, before being gone the next split second.
Leida The corrosive shadows cling to the screaming rat, running off his flailing limbs like tar and seeping into the cracks of his soul. It feels much like having nails raked across one's bones while your very essence is split apart. It's not a pleasant sensation to say the least.

The bolt of electricity goes wide in Megavolts panic, arcing into the wall over the small girl's shoulder and blasting a massive chunk of fake brick and plaster into a spray of white dust that billows out over the entrance of the arcade.

Several of the arms reposition themselves at Leida's sides and curl about her body like snakes or tentacles from some horrible beast. The dark appendages hoist the girl up into the air, supporting her comfortably as if she were sitting in a chair. Dozens of tiny smokey tendrils extrude from the arms and caress her body and face lovingly as she rolls her head back and forth, rubbing against them like a cat being pet.

"The eternal night... shall come..."

Leida looks back down at her victim as she speaks. A second darker voice rises up to join her childish tone, speaking in tandem with a deep echoing timber that makes her words reverberate off the walls. The dark pool holding Megavolt suddenly surges upwards, slamming him towards the arcade ceiling. The hazy purple energy surrounding the girl suddenly erupts from the shadowy claw now holding Megavolt aloft, trying to further destroy his resolve with horrible visions plucked from his own nightmares.
Megavolt Megavolt goes flying up into the ceiling, trying to gather static electricity but his concentration broken and his powers unresponsive. "Aiiiiie! You're sick, sick, sick!" he screams as his vision is filled with all the bullies, jerks, and abusers from his highschool years. Pressed up against the ceiling, he groans, and tries a last ditch maneuver - drawing an arcade machine behind Leida toward her, at a frightening pace.
Leida The massive piece of hardware barrels into the girl from behind, smashing to pieces from the forceful application. However, instead of striking at the frail slender body, it crashes powerfully into a surge of darkness that rises up like a tidal wave to absorb the explosion.

A faint hiss of pain fills the air, coming from everywhere and nowhere at once, and the remnants of the shattered arcade machine are ejected from the shadows like pieces of chewed up peanut shells.

Leida leans forward in her arm-chair, one hand reaching out towards the distant body of the furry creature as he disappears into a cloud of chalky debris upon collision with the ceiling. She can hear him but to the broken girl's mind that isn't good enough.

"Don't go...! Stay where I can see you..."

The shadows response to her wishes, a shadowy mimic of her outstretched hand pulling Megavolt back towards the floor with painful force. The claws dig in to pin him in place and their hateful venom seeps towards his wounds even as more shadows rise up to crash upon him anew.
Megavolt Megavolt goes from up to down, dragged back to the floor by the claw, even as his gloved hands grasp at the ceiling for dear life. "Ohhhh, I wanna go HOOOOME!" he moans, as he feels more poisonous darkness enter his system, the venom putting him in agony. "You're really gettin' me TICKED!" he shouts, unleashing a mighty thunderclap, with both furious sound and blinding light.
Leida The explosion of light and sound hits the girl like a wave of physical force and she recoils, the arms loosing cohesion in her sudden lack of focus. She drops to the floor painfully, eyes closed and lies still. The shadows clutched tightly about Megavolt vanish into puffs of acrid smoke as well, freeing him at last.

Before the sparky rodent can capitolize on this sudden change of fortune, however, the shadows bubbles up from the floor around Leida's body, rising up to wrap about her protectively. A mist-like smoke seeps into her body from the dark void, sealing over her wounds slowly but visibly and after a few moments she begins to stir.
Megavolt Megavolt finally gets some breathing room, sitting up on the ground and shaking his head back and forth. "Geez, that really took some juice outta me..." he says to himself, standing up, wobbly at first, and he moves over to an electric socket. "Here we are!" He unplugs the arcade machine and jams his fingers right into the pair of slots. He's sent flying backwards, into a counter full of toys, smashing into the glass and sinking down. "Whoa...That really cleared the sinuses!" He stands up, arcing with voltage, and slowly stalks towards Leida, summoning a buffer from the janitor's closet and sending it flying at Leida!
Leida Again the darkness intercepts the offending machine, smashing it to pieces with a powerful crash that tears holes in the inky substance. Leida shakily begins to climb back to her feet but the demon arms get there first, hoisting her up gently and setting her down on the ground like a parent helping a child.

Her eyes cloud over and she stares off into the arcade, distracted by the cacophany of mixing musical themes and the blinding array of flashing lights that are practically an epileptic seizure given physical form. An innocent smile graces her features for a moment.

"Oh look... a firefly! And another there... and there... and there..." She drones on like this for several seconds before the voice peters out to nothing, her eyes drifting closed and her head slumping down towards the floor. Then just as quickly she turns and drags her gaze up to the eyes of her opponent again, locking their swirling dark pits of fire on his beady google-covered peepers.

"Sssh... can you hear it...? The peaceful song is calling me..."

With a painfully dark flare the purple aura of fire about the girl erupts into a surging torrent. Several machines near the front of the arcade sputter and spark for seemingly no reason, a few going so far as to explode, their screens vomiting circuitry and silicon across the floor. Leida takes a hesistant step forward, then another, marching slowly but inexorably towards Megavolt with deadly grace.

The shadows expand beneath her into a veritable pool of inky blackness, stretching out to encompass the majority of the floor and spilling up onto the walls when it can go no further. Negative energy ruthlessly spills from the girl's presence, tainting everything with hate, fear, greed, and torment of unspeakable sorts stemming from the darkness in one's own heart.

"Come," she whispers. "And witness my DREAM..."
Megavolt Megavolt's eyes widen as he sees the huge rush of inky blackness, his hands grabbing a foosball table as he's drawn downwards. "Auuugh...Ackkkk....N-n-noooo, noooo, NOOOO!" His rubber gloved hands hang onto the table by fingertips, before he's sucked in, and convulses in agony. He drags himself out of the worst of it, and states, "I may be crazy, I may be stupid, I may be insane, but I'm not suicidal!" He turns tail and attempts to run out of the arcade, getting away from the crazy little girl.
Leida The shadows are tenacious, clinging to the rodent, calling to him as he struggles to escape. Why fight it? Surely there is no hope, no escape from the eternal abyss that seeks to swallow the world. The Heartless will come here just as they always do and destroy everything. So why not just.. give in...?

The siren calls of the darkness find some purchase in his soul and siphon away at the power within, taking a small piece of his resolve to feed their rapacious hunger. But still he manages to free himself, dashing off from the demonic horror assaulting him. She does not follow.

Leida's hand lifts and she reaches out towards the fleeing mouse for a moment but it quickly falls back to her side in dejection, her eyes going to the ground as the mass of shadows retreats into her body. She turns back towards the arcade, empty now but for the music and lights. A soft sigh escapes her lips, a wisp of white frigid air swirling away from them.

"No one is left... everyone keeps leaving me..."

Suddenly, a thought surges to the fore, a strange idea coming unbidden to her mind. A voice echos through her consciousness as if some sort of faint memory.

*Plant this in strange places and stranger things will grow...*

Her hands come together over her chest, the armor melting away to reveal a small oval of nothingness made real. She holds it, looking at it curiously, unsure where this thing came from or why she has it. But the voices never lie and this is about as strange a place as she's ever seen.

Leida makes her way towards the back of the arcade, searching for a good place to plant her seed... What fruit will it bear in time?
