Looking In
(2012-10-28 - 2012-12-14)
No description.
Avira Shortly after Faruja and the other Shard Seekers had left the ended melee against Sho, Avira realized something. Riku had slipped off at some point! She couldn't convince herself that the kid wasn't there so clearly he had to be nearby, right? He couldn't have gone far, right?

Right?!

So despite being in better need of lying down for a while after that nail-biting and grueling fight, Avira is combing through Traverse Town, looking for Riku. She's completely unaware of any corridor-manipulation powers he has so, tragically, he might have left Traverse town already in that short period of time.

"Rikuuuuu? Uggh." Rapidly running out of steam, Avira takes yet another breather during her search, plopping down at the edge of the big golden fountain in the middle of town.
Riku "Hey Avira." Riku appears as if summoned as she flops down on the edge of the fountain. He looks weary but no longer seems to be sporting any of the minor cuts and bruises he had been before. He rubs his back gingerly.

"You alright? It looked like you took a beating from Junkman and his barrage of Noise." he takes a seat nearly, letting out a grateful breath as he sits down nearby. Diablo alights on the roof of a nearby building, staring at the both of them.
Avira Maybe Avira should have sat down to just wait sooner. Oh the irony! "Riku." she greets, nonetheless sounding extremely surprised to finally find him. "Yeah that was...that was pretty rough. Those things he summoned were a lot tougher than most of the stuff I've fought that show up with those kinds of numbers." She takes in a breath, "But I'll live...glad to see you're okay too."

She glances over at him, noting that he's definitely healed himself up, Avira doesn't seem to notice Diablo's presence. "Actually, though, I've been kinda worried about you since that night in Mercade's office. I should have tracked you down sooner after that but...uh...how are you holding up?"
Riku Riku chuckles. "Oh. That-- well" he sighs, rubbing the back of his neck. "I've already gone back to the office and apologized. I get really twitchy around magic, Avira. Especially the big stuff." he shrugs. "I'll get over it.. eventually." he looks off into the distance, eyes unfocusing a little as he rubs one hand along his arm.

"Great moves out there though. I always see you doing crazy things, and most of the time they end up working. As opposed to Reize, in which said crazy things get him wrapped up in bandages."
Avira "Yeah, that." Avira had been a spectator in that exchange. Much like the others, she had no idea what happened, but there was enough people being upset afterwards. "Magic being real does take some getting used to, doesn't it? Just between you and me, Riku..." she looks at him over her shoulder, "Where I'm from, it was all just stories too. Stuff like-"

She lifts a hand and gestures at Traverse Town, "-this just didn't happen."

At the compliment, she pauses and just for a brief moment, her cheeks redden. "Heh, thanks. It's practice, mostly. Helps when I put my heart into it too...but I'm not sure what's up with Reize. I think he's got terminal bad luck. Luck so bad it rubs off on me when I'm around him."
Riku Riku laughs quietly. "Not so bad as that. I think he just makes choices without thinking about them first, and the consequences just naturally follow afterwards." he leans back on the ledge of the fountain. "And honestly? None of this happened where I grew up either. There were countless stories but--" he shrugs. "They were just stories. I don't even want to think about all the crazy things I've seen up to now." he shakes his head and sighs quietly. "It's amazing..."
Avira "That might be on the mark. Like, sure, jumping on a Heartless taxi to attack it and disable it seems like an idea but if you don't plan to escape the inevitable car crash that follows..." Avira shakes her head, "...that happened, by the way. To Reize. I have to give him some credit, though, that he lived through it." Her arm drops back down to the ledge to support herself, her back slumping.

"Riku, when you read those stories, did you ever find yourself wishing that they were true?" She sounds cautiously curious about this question.
Riku "Yeah. I heard something about a giant chicken, but I just assumed Reize had a bigger concussion than I thought. So the killer taxis strike again. He said the heartless were after something. What was it?" Riku doesn't immediately answer the question, instead sidestepping it by asking his own.
Avira Interesting. That he basically flat-out evaded her question doesn't go unnoticed by Avira. She doesn't say anything about it yet but she does raise an eyebrow at him. "No, the giant robot heartless chicken really was a thing. Well, turns out the Heartless were mostly stealing this stuff that Dr. Fink called 'D-fuel.' He said it was a power source he tried to make out of terror but it was too unstable to use. What do you mean the taxis strike again?"
Riku "I've seen them before in Manhattan. I almost got run down by them a couple of times, heartless variety or otherwise." Riku shakes his head. "Giant robot.. heartless.. chicken." he laughs, putting a hand to his face and rubbing the bridge of his nose. "That's-- that's pretty ridiculous, but I suppose I shouldn't be TOO surprised."
Avira "...in Manhattan, huh. Hmmm." Avira's eyes narrow and she files that little detail away for later. "It's odd, isn't it, for Heartless to be collecting things like this." she remarks...only to start laughing along with Riku.

"That wasn't even the worst part, you shoulda seen the rest of the vaults where this stuff was kept. Okay, maybe not, you would have gone crazy. There were murderous sockpuppets and man-eating cookware and killer origami! I'm completely serious, this is all stuff that happened down there. Halloween Town is straaaaaange."
Riku Riku stares at her as if not believing her. He smiles quietly, looking up at where Diablo is sitting for a moment. He puts his hands in his lap. "Yes. I wanted the stories to be true." he chuckles grimly. "Which I think-- tells you that I'm as foolish as Reize for doing stupid things like that." he gestures in the direction of the other district that was torn up in the fight. "Because for every giant chicken and killer.. origami? There's Noise, and the heartless.. and everything else that's done with magic."
Avira "You don't believe me, do you." Avira pouts, "Well I've got proof...it's not on me, but I got proof 'cause I kept one of the sockpuppets that tried to eat my head." Now it is forever a hat.

Then, to her surprise, he really does answer her earlier question. Her good mood is quick to fade now, "Foolish?" she repeats, "Really? It doesn't seem that foolish..." Though Avira tries to be cautious with how she says it, it's probably pretty clear that she's always wanted the stories to be true-no, /real/, as well. "...it's not like these things happen because of us. It's not like we want Noise to rampage around Traverse Town."
Riku "Of course not." Riku looks at the hat with a look of chagrin, shaking his head. "But there will always be more Noise, and more people willing to use them to do what they want." The teenager takes a steadying breath at that, leaning up to look at the stars. "Maybe things would be better if magic didn't exist at all. People would still hurt eachother, but magic would no longer make it so easy."
Avira "And people will stop them. I don't think I've seen a lack of people that'll step in to stop them so far." Avira's all too quick to add. Not that she's trying to implicate anyone in particular for this. Troubled, she turns to watch Riku as he looks to the stars. "I'm not sure I really...agree. Magic can do a lot more than just hurt people, I've seen that much." It's kind of weird too that he'd be so adverse to magic. Avira's clearly seen him using it. Come to think of it...

"Out of curiosity, how did you learn your magic?"
Riku "My world didn't have magic. It was just one of those stories." Riku grimly continues to smile at Avira. "And it's not for a lack of trying. Everybody wants to be the hero, I think. Or at least look to their own eyes as if they are competant." he directs this comment to Avira as he asks. "Whatever happened to those Dark shards you were looking at?"
Avira Up goes the eyebrow again, "You're dodging my question." Mysteriously, she makes no comments on his astute observation that everybody wants to be the hero. Or more importantly, to look as if they are competent.

But she seems undeniably a little bit uncomfortable now.

"...funny you should mention those dark shards though." she does continue, "I've done a bit of experimentation. They don't attract Heartless or function as a power source. But they do seem they can be used in forging to make weapons with a kind of darkness aspect to them. Dunno how useful that would be against Heartless."
Riku Riku mms. "Probably not very." he smiles at her comment that he was dodging the question, and dodges acknowleding that he's dodged the question. "Although they might be useful against monsters. Not everything dangerous around and about the worlds is attached to the heartless, so I've learned. Reize and I almost got eaten by a giant man-eating sandplant the other day. It ate his hookshot. Reize, the mighty desert adventurer-- tends to be like that."
Avira Dodging her comments too! Something really felt amiss now. He had to pick up his magic somewhere, just as she had really struggled to learn what little she could in the time she had...

"Monsters, sure, but I don't think it's something I'd be adding to the Spine. Maybe a secondary weapon." she takes one of the Dark Shards out of the pouches around her waist, "They're okay souvenirs. ...wait, are you serious? It ate his gear? I mean...yeah, that's just downright embarassing. Losing equipment..."
Riku "Yes. Embarrassing is about what Reize is about as well." Riku smiles. "But he'll survive." he rolls his eyes., "Somehow." he sighs, rubbing his arm with one hand. "Yeah.. he'll make it through. I think you will too, Avira. If you keep your wits about you." he smiles, pushing himself to his feet. "I'm going to go get some sleep. It's been a long day."
Avira "With all the friends Reize is surrounded by...yeah, I think he'll survive." Only recently has Avira realized the extent of the Shard Seekers. "Heh, thanks for the vote of confidence." Avira smirks at Riku and puts away the Dark Shard. "I think I'll be doin' that soon enough, too. That sleep thing."

She watches him get up, only to suddenly add, "Hey Riku...if you ever need someone to talk to that's just a little bit more level headed than Reize...feel free to look me up, okay?"
Riku Riku looks at Avira for a long moment, a beat longer than is really comfortable. He crooks his arm, Diablo flying down from the roof to land on his arm in a flutter of wings. He preens out the raven's feathers, answering quietly. "I'll keep that in mind, Avira. I'll see you later." he nods in her direction and then turns away, walking away down the street.
Avira Avira meets his gaze, though as the seconds tick by, she can't help but slowly look away, changing her focus first to the starry sky, then to Diablo. Seeing that bird there just made her double uncomfortable now but she manages to hide this with a grin, "Seeya, Riku." The moment he's gone, Avira is up and off to an inn to spend the night in. Being out alone did not feel like a good idea right now.
