Riku Riku refers back to his notes, wandering in a long circle around the circular platform. He was a little less than half way up the tower.

Every so often he'd stop to stare into the distance, past the walls of greenish stone and the glowing orb connections. He could hear something faintly resonating through the clocktower in these times of mental quiet. It only comes to his consciounsess through the fact that he is faintly humming something under his breath as he studies the diagrams he has made in the black journal.

The resonant sound was that of an unfamiliar voice singing, so quietly that it is swallowed every so often by footsteps and the rustle of cloth. Riku listens to it for several long minutes, pulling an orb from the wall without looking at it and carrying it across to the other side of the room and down two platforms tracing the connections along the wall.
Kaydin The next sounds heard was metal clanking along metal, like armor. Also the sound of a chain rattling announces the presence of the dark knight. He was exploring the area and came to investigate this area. The puzzles of the area was something he found annoying. Still he walks to where the boy stood and tilted his head at Riku. "Are you the one who resides here?"
Riku "It's beginning to feel like it." Riku mutters, not taking his eyes from the journal. He frowns in thought, putting the orb into a slot in the wall.

He watches the line of energy as it snakes across the floor and up the two platforms he just descended, snapping the journal shut as he hears the faint hum of something powering up. Riku looks over at Kaydin asking "Who are you?" as he walks back towards the platforms.
Kaydin "I am known as Kaydin, Dark Knight of Baron. I heard rumor there was a source of power here. I came to see if it was true." Kaydin asks as he reaches to take off the black helmet he wore, revealing he was at most two years older then Riku. "And you?" He asks curiously.
Riku "Baron, huh?" Riku slaps the control that raises the platform and doesn't seem very impressed. "Well. I came here seeking answers. Maybe one of us is right. My name's Riku." he turns away from Kaydin as the platform comes to a stop, tracing the connection line to a split. "Crap. Another one of these." he points to where an empty wall socket adorns a far wall.

"Hey. Could you stand over there? I've got to go this way-- and it's timed." he looks at the higher platform that curls around the outer edge of this chamber, then down at the wall socket some distance away. "I could probably make it." he puts away the journal, heading off towards the upper spiral.
Kaydin Kaydin looks and goes to stand where Riku told him to stand. "An honor to meet you Riku." He says calmly as he would just look about. "Never in my travels have I seen such marvels as I have when the worlds combined. Baron was made powerful because of the dark knights and the airships we possessed but these puzzles and buildings are incredibly different." He says as he keeps a calm tone.
Riku "You get used to it." Riku climbs to the apex of the chamber, leaping over two small gaps in the flooring. "Although yeah. I was pretty surprised for awhile. There's just so much out here to see. What are you doing all the way out here? I think--" he takes an orb out of the wall, furrowing his brow as the energy begins to drain from that connector towards the junction. He tosses the sphere up into the air and catches it, then tossing it down to Kaydin and gestures to the socket on the wall. "I think that's pretty far away, even by portal. You don't seem lost."
Kaydin "Rest assured, I am thoroughly lost. I just prefer to take in everything I see while I am lost." Kaydin says as he begins to move to the socket. "Just the other day I came out of a person's shadow using this portal ability I discovered I could do. He was in a desert, and got attacked by these things called noise, which looked like penguins." He says as he shakes his head and puts the ball into the socket and copies what Riku did.
Riku "Yeah.." Riku looks at Kaydin more closely now from the vantage of this upper platform. He pauses only for a second. "Portals can be finicky. I've never heard of appearing out of someone's shadow before though. Seems like a neat trick." The tower hums with energy as the sphere meets the inner contacts. A door opens in the far side of the wall, leading to a spiral staircase that went further up the tower.

"Well, thoroughly lost guy, thanks for saving me some trouble. This is about as far up the tower as I've been able to get. I got up that staircase last night, but it closes at the end of the day and I got locked out. Had to do the entire sequence from scratch again." Riku heads for the stairs, digging out his journal again and flipping to the appropriate pages.
Kaydin Kaydin nods as he follows the boy. "So I have learned. So do you know what comes from completing these puzzles? Usually the more complex the puzzle the bigger the prize." He says as he would look about, despite the metal armor he didnt seemed slowed down at all.
Riku "No idea. I saw someone fiddling with it the other day though, and got suckered into the whole deal. I hate puzzles-- but I hate leaving something unfinished even more. So" Riku shrugs. "We'll have to see." he trots up the chairs taking them two at a time, leaning against a wall not too far from the top of the stairs.

The upper chamber was another fiendish concoction of orbs, platforms and energy connections, with ominous looking gaps between most of the infrastructure making it more difficult to traverse than the one right below it. He starts to sketch the inner workings of the room, not looking up as he asks Kaydin. "That kinda looks uncomfortable. You wear that all the time?"
Kaydin "Yeah. Trained myself to be able to sleep in it as well. Didnt have much of a happy childhood, no real friends, so other then reading and doodling I trained constantly. Honestly suprised everyone in the city I grew up in when I became a dark knight. Was considered to small and runty and sickly to be anything." Kaydin says as he looks about the place.
Riku Riku raises an eyebrow, looking up at Kaydin. "Wow. That's sounds.. pretty harsh. Is that-- normal for Baron?" he continues to sketch out the layout, eyes glancing at the features of the room and then back down at his journal regularly. There were four orbs spaced out regularly around the diameter of the room, two of them in raised alcoves, a third at the end of a twisted 'corridor' made of thin platforms standing on basically nothing at all and the last sunken into a depression in the floor.

However, there were eight sockets into which these four might be placed. The eight sockets, raised by stairways or platforms or sunken into the floor are almost as difficult to get to as the orbs themselves. The room was a labyrinth in miniature.
Kaydin "Normally no it isnt harsh but I was the son of a guardsman and a black mage and my attempting to become a dark knight was believed possible because of my parents. Course what they didnt know was my parents was giving me just a hard time and focusing on their own studies and work." Kaydin says with a shrug. "Baron despite the hardships I have gone through, is my home and I swore to serve and protect it though lately it has given me pause."
Riku "Yeah." Riku leans up from the wall, proceeding a few steps into the interior to sit up against the wall near a flat protrusion that makes a small series of terrace steps. He decides to push a little bit and see what the armored knight will do. "Huh. Why do they call them dark knights, anyways? Is there anything to that or is it because Baron likes to make things seem scarier than they actually are for some reason?"
Kaydin "Because we are trained to use the darkness as a weapon." Kaydin says as he draws his sword. He focuses on the blade and Riku can see it begining to turn more black as black shadowy energy radiates from it. "Our pain, anger, sadness, hatred, focused as a weapon to use against our enemies. The more we are hurt, the stronger we become." He says as he makes the blade return to normal and sheathes it.
Riku Riku frowns at Kaydin, his mouth a grim line as every nerve ending seems to twitch simultaniously at the summoning of dark energy. "Oh." he says with a flat disintest. "So Baron too, huh? Pff. You'd think a place with a big kingdom and an army wouldn't need to fall back onto the darkness like a crutch." he continues to sketch, as is suddenly he has completely lost interest in Kaydin.

"Is that why you are here? Searching out more power sources to feed to your masters?" he almost scores the paper, the lines becoming short and harsh as they rasp across the page. "Because you know it's never going to be enough."
Kaydin "The darkness can be used as a tool. The problem is people underestimate themselves and give into the darkness for power." Kaydin says as he shakes his head. "I am searching for more sources of power to try and give Baron more strength without having to rely on the darkness completely. The Dark Knights use the darkness as weapons is one thing, but...Our king has saw fit to use the heartless and I greatly disapprove of this. So I seek to find a way for us to be strong so we wont have to rely on the heartless." Kaydin says calmly.
Riku "Seems you've got a pat answer for everything." Riku snorts, shaking his head. "And I've heard this one before so forgive me for not paying attention." he gets up from the terrace steps, making his way towards the lowest sphere in the alcove at the bottom.
Kaydin "To each their own. You dont have to believe me and my ways. What of you? Where are you from?" He asks curiously as he looks about some more and would look to the sphere that Riku was walking towards. "I assume that you have some method to combat the darkness." He says clmly.
Riku "Usually by staying out of the way." Riku comments as he listens to Kaydin clatter his way around the tower, the sounds echoing and slightly distorted by the crystalline structure. "That works the best, I find. No darkness required." he looks around, trying to orient himself and trace the lines that lead from the nearest of the empty sockets, but appears to only be getting a headache from the attempt.
Kaydin Kaydin nods. "I see." He says as he would try and follow the lines with his eyes as he looks about the cloister. "I hope that whatever happens you find a way to defend yourself when the time comes. Sometimes there arent a way to avoid it." He says with actual emotion now, concern it seems as he then looks to Riku. "If you want, perhaps I could teach you what I know of the sword. No darkness required." He says calmly.
Riku Riku has his face turned away from Kaydin so it's easy to squash the bemused smile that comes and goes on his face. The twitch of his shoulders can be easily filed away as irritation with the puzzle. "No. Sometimes there isn't a way to avoid it." he turns, tracing the line of a conduit with his eyes before looking back at the knight. "I think I'll take you up on that offer, Kaydin."
Kaydin "I became a Dark Knight so none around me would have to go through what I did. So that I can keep people safe. So the chance to help another gain skill and strength is something I look forward to." Kaydin says with a slight smile as he watches the teen. "As corny as it sounds, I genuinely believe it." He says as he would look back to the lines.
Riku Riku murmurs. "heard that one too" to himself as he grabs the orb and throws it up in the air, catching it. Louder, he says.

"Don't worry. I have an amazing tolerance for corny from MY childhood." he tosses the orb to Kaydin. "Why don't you take this one. If I stare at these connections any longer my eyes are going to cross."
Kaydin Kaydin catches the orb and looks to the lines "Lets see here..." He says as he would try and follow the lines. "As I said, Baron uses the heartless to conquer, And several heads of the government seem to be...off. I think they may have fallen so far into darkness that they are becoming monsters. Best I can do now is to try and keep from letting people be hurt." He says as he thinks about how to do this puzzle.
